June is always an exciting time in schools. For our grads, they will participate in our Graduation Ceremony on Friday, June 9 at the Hard Rock Theatre, followed by a banquet at Swan-e-Set and Dry Grad at Garibaldi. We wish them all a memorable and safe celebration.
As the province adopts new curriculum and moves away from formal provincial exams in grades 10 and 11, ALL of our students are scheduled in regular classes until June 22nd this year.
As you can see from the list below, there are many awesome activities planned for our students during the month. This is a list of some of the important events that are planned for June.
June 1st – Students who signed up will be travelling to Vancouver to watch a performance of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing at Bard on the Beach in Kitsilano.
June 2nd – Mr. Murphy’s Superfit class will spend the day paddling canoes in Widgeon Creek while our Track & Field athletes will be competing in the provincial championships in Langley on Friday and Saturday.
June 6th – All grade 10 Social Studies students will be participating in a field trip to Hayward Lake while our grads will be holding a much appreciated Car Wash for staff and then will enjoy a Grad BBQ at lunch.
June 7th – Grad Rehearsal at 3pm in the gym. ALL GRADS must attend. Rehearsal is expected to take about 1 hour.
June 9th – Garibaldi Graduation Day. All students will now be dismissed at 11am. Grads are reminded to be at the Hard Rock Theatre by 12:30 for their group photo. Tickets have been sold for the Ceremony beginning 1:30 and the banquet at Swan-e-Set golf course, which begins at 5pm. The evening concludes with Dry Grad at Garibaldi beginning at 11:30. Grads should prearrange to be dropped off and picked up from Dry Grad. Pick up time will be approximately 5:00 am.
June 14th – Will be the last pancake breakfast for the year. We sincerely thank Youth Unlimited for providing our staff and students with a weekly breakfast. It is always very appreciated. The evening will feature a screening of Mr. Hanlon’s Advisory production “Wear Your Rue”.
June 16th – Music families wrap-up at Whonnock Lake at 5:30. Our Sr. PE class will participate in an overnight River Rafting / camping adventure.
The week of June 19-22 will feature an adjusted schedule for students. Each day will begin with a flex block from 8:30 to 9:30, where students have the choice of which class they would like to work in. Attendance is mandatory and students must be in a class with a teacher. The remainder of these days will be double blocks. On Monday, it will be double A block in the morning and double B block in the afternoon. Tuesday will be EE/FF, Wednesday will be CC/DD and Thursday will be GG/HH.
June 23rd – classes are not in session for students. Grade 12 students will write the provincial English 12 exam from 9:00 – 12:00. Our STEPS program will be at Whonnock Lake for the day, while our fishing club will be at Munroe Lake.
